Kokuten Tachi with Double Grooves

29" Nagasa

This robust Bizen style shinsakuto was sent to us by Kokuten Komiya. The blade was exhibited at the Sano Museum (click here to see the full page from the catalog) and the scan on the right was taken from the exhibition catalog. The 29" nagasa katana with double grooves has a two piece gold foiled habaki and is in shirasaya.

The sword has a robust choji hamon, full art polish, and a gorgeous boshi. The very tight itame hada is well worked and there are areas of intense nie mid blade on both sides.

Kokuten is considered by many to be one of the up and coming young smiths making up the next generation of top notch craftsmen in Japan. This sword and its wonderful, classic shape showing his true potential.
